A birthday calendar from your contacts

A wall calendar with every birthday in the family already on it makes a good gift, and it saves the yearly hunt for dates. CalDesign takes the birthdays from Contacts on your Mac and prints each one in the right day, with the age the person turns.

Three weeks of May: Tomek · 37 and Ola · 30 marked with a blue dot, May Day circled in red, two trips framed in green and an anniversary underlined in purple.
Birthdays with the age, next to a holiday, two trips and an anniversary.

Bring in the birthdays

  1. Pick people in Contacts' own picker inside CalDesign, drop them from Contacts onto the window, or import a .vcf file someone sent you.
  2. Each birthday becomes a yearly date in a Birthdays category. CalDesign keeps only the names and dates, not addresses or phone numbers.
  3. If a birthday has a year, the calendar can show the age the person turns: "Ola · 30". A birthday without a year shows the name alone.

Dates that are not in Contacts, like anniversaries or name days, can be typed in by hand, each group in a category of its own.

Make the birthdays stand out

Give the Birthdays category its own colour, a bold number and a marker: a dot, a circle, a square or an underline. Holidays, school dates and trips can each look different, so the whole family can read the wall at a glance. When two dates fall on the same day, the category higher in your list decides how the day looks.

Add the photos and print

Put a photo on every month, perhaps of whoever has a birthday in it. Then export a PDF for a print shop or a TIFF for a photo lab. See how to print a wall calendar.

Any year, any start

Birthdays are yearly dates, so each one lands on the right day, with the right age, in whatever year the calendar covers. A calendar can also start in any month and run for up to 18 months, for a school year or a gift given in autumn.
